Alan Moore at Gosh!

On the 2nd February 2008, Gosh! Comics were thrilled to host a signing with perhaps the greatest comic writer ever to have lived – Alan Moore. Though it was originally billed as a three-hour signing with both Moore and his wife and artistic collaborator Melinda Gebbie, what occurred was a five-hour signing with Alan bravely facing the crowds alone, fuelled only by cup upon cup of black tea and a plethora of digestive treats.

Despite running into heavy overtime, Alan got to meet, greet and sign for every fan in the queue. Not having done a comic shop signing of this magnitude for 17 years, he retained an admirable enthusiasm throughout as regular customers and Gosh newcomers alike produced obscure collections, original issues and even 7” records for Alan to render unique.

Although unfortunately Melinda wasn’t able to make it on the day due to illness, she stopped in another day and was sorry to have missed the big occasion. She still did her part to promote the book, however, signing the shop’s remaining stock of Lost Girls alongside Moore. In terms of customer satisfaction, creator enjoyment and the promotion of the landmark graphic novel, the event was a great success.
